Overview

Farming animals intensively typically leads to manure management issues.  With poultry farming this manure concentration frequently:

  • Is a breeding ground for bacteria
  • Leads to a toxic substrate given the concentration of manure in the bedding
  • Increasing the nutrient retention and availability to support plant growth

Biochar and its unique characteristics—porosity, high surface area, adsorption capability—make it a highly desirable bedding material for poultry farming since it can:

  • Absorb and hold moisture
  • Adsorb and lock in nitrogen and other toxic gases
  • Reduce the breeding ground for bacteria

Our biochar ultimately leads to a healthier coop environment by reducing ammonia, toxic emissions and moisture with the added benefit of potentially having the ability to re-use the biochar poultry litter as a soil amendment in the future.
